TV news taught me a lot

“What’s that all about?”

It’s my favorite question.

I’ve worked for digital and TV media outlets - from the Columbus (OH) Dispatch to KMIZ-TV in Columbia, Mo. to WCPO-TV in Cincinnati. And I’ve done it all - anchor, reporter, producer, one-man-band.

Each stop taught me something the power of truth, storytelling, messaging, and community building. I covered everything from Super Bowl LVI and NCAA March Madness to natural disasters in Moore, Okla. to acting as a media witness to Ohio’s last execution.

My public position on TV gave me access to power brokers, lawmakers, and the overlooked neighbors doing real work to make a difference. I’ve helped more than one dozen organizations raise millions of dollars - by telling their stories, hosting events, volunteering time and talent.

As traditional media models break down - and the landscape gets increasingly loud and crowded - I’ve got a unique viewpoint on how to cut through the clutter and find a voice. My role as board president of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences - Ohio Valley (Emmys) gives me close insight into trends - and standards of excellence - even as those industries change.
